Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) was a Finnish composer. He wrote seven symphonies. Symphony Number 2 is referred to as the 'symphony of independence.' It was composed at a mountain villa in Rapallo, Italy when Finland was in conflict with Russia. It is concerned with the theme of death and resurrection.
