About: Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) was a German composer. This was his last piano concerto. He was composing it when the French led by Napoleon were invading Vienna in 1809. Under artillery fire, Beethoven had to take refuge in the cellar of his brother's house. Beethoven writes that the events, 'affected me, body and soul . . . with nothing but drums, cannons, men, misery of all sorts.'
