| 'The past is a place to learn from, not to live in.' |
-Brian Mendonca
If you read the lettering at the entrance of Yaki Zushi restaurant you will find an instruction.
-Make a wish before you enter.
-It will clarify your purpose in life.
-As you eat your dish the wish will fructify.
-Place your hand and move the prayer drums.
-The universe will bring to realization your constructive intent.
This Zen-inspired place always brings out positive vibrations. The carefully worded exhortation is deeply meaningful. Your meal becomes a ritual of awareness with the propensity for the actualisation of your goal.
'Constructive intent' implies that there is value in intent alone. The purpose may or may not be realized. The intention needs to be pure and practical (constructive).
The delicious Tom Kha, a Thai soup in coconut milk, set the tone with just a hint of the required bitterness - so much like life. Distinctive herbs went into the veg preparation.
At the end of your meal you can consider a lemon-grass creme brulee. The smell of lemon grass stems took me a decade back to our days with dad in Vasco. There used to always be a lemon grass plant in the balcony. We used to add a dash to our tea.
The brulee is a French preparation. It is a custard with a sheet of browned caramel at the top. A lemon grass stem was placed in the centre. The plate was dusted with tiny bread crumbs.
As we walked out I twirled the prayer drums remembered the wish I had made before I stepped in.
