Happy Birthday Chakraborty saab. You are looking as fit as ever today on your 48th - sorry, 84th - birthday. Your wife standing by your side, in the embrace of your family, you have had a good innings.
It was not so long ago when we sat side by side in the editorial office in South Delhi. I was amazed by your tenacity and your willingness to work. You never lost your cool and always counselled others when approached.
You came to see Dwayne when he was just born on Makar Sankranti at Holy Family Hospital, New Delhi. You also came for his christening at Holy Spirit church, Alaknanda. He is 14 now.
Having just met my life partner in Mumbai, I used to share the details of my trips when I used to hurtle in trains from Delhi to Mumbai or Goa. On one occasion when I was RAC on the Goa Sampark Kranti, you assured me that my berth would be confirmed - and it was!
The beautiful walks in the park we used to have during our lunch breaks in GK1 were a brief bower of bliss. You kept pace with us, and made fine conversation, always keeping us in good humour.
Best wishes on your birthday. You richly deserve the joys of life.
