Blogging as a Pedagogical Asset in Digital Humanities

 -Dr. Brian Mendonça

                                                                        Abstract

Blogging needs to be leveraged as a pedagogical asset in digital humanities (DH). In higher education institutions (HEIs) blogging is often reduced to a footnote - its multifarious applications laid to waste or untapped. Blogging depends on the initiative of the blogger – in this case, the teacher. Depending on the needs of the students or the class, the teacher can generate blogposts to suit their level of comprehension.

Blogging can make prescribed texts which may be uninspiring or dated, come to life with dazzling writing on specific topics to break down the difficulty level. These blogs can be a constant source of reference for the class they were created for - as well as for subsequent classes in the State following the same syllabus or under the same university.

Students share these blogs on their social media platforms creating a non-formal, non-hierarchical community of knowledge-seekers. The paper will address some of these issues offering examples from blogs, with a view to maximize the full potential of blogging as a pedagogical asset in teaching.
