On this day, many years back, Sr. Rani Maria left us unexpectedly. She was stabbed in a bus she was travelling in. Sr. Rani was mobilizing women to be financially independent. This attracted the ire of the money lenders.
Her commitment to the cause of women is remarkable. She pressed on, no matter what. And she paid the price. Her family forgave the killer and was instrumental in his release.
Sr. Maria's life is an inspiration. She stepped out of her world and recognized those who were in need. She came forward and tried to make their life better. Her bravery led to social transformation in an area that required intervention. She was not afraid to embrace the last and the least.
There are so many Sisters in society today facing challenges. They do their work silently uplifting those entrusted to their care - often with little or no recognition.
A movie has been made about Sr. Rani Maria's life, so that the world may know. A short 5-minute documentary titled Indore ki Rani (Hindi, b/w) has also been made.
On her death anniversary today we can remember her commitment to a cause she found for herself.
