The second edition of the Bible Fiesta organized by the catechetical cell of Holy Family church, Porvorim, Goa today was spiritually uplifting. The children played their parts well and the hi-tech stage supported their effort. It was a Sunday evening to remember.

The evening commenced with the enthronement of the Bible by the parish priest Fr. Caetano Fernandes. The fiesta was his initiative since last year. He was ably supported by Fr. Boris Dias, animator of the catechetical cell. The chief guest and the guest of honour graced the occasion. The chief guest was Fr. Marcelin Rodrigues, Director of the Diocesan Catechetical Centre. The catechists led by Iona Sequeira,  coordinator, took a lot of trouble to train the kids during their school holidays and keep them busy.

Four kinds of miracles of Jesus were enacted, viz. miracles of healing; of deliverance from possession; of nature; and of manifestation.

The sound system was good. The voiceovers were heard clearly. The recorded music was apt and took us back in time. The props were also thought thoughtfully chosen and accurate in their historical context.

The screen behind provided a dynamic element to the performance, projecting stills, and sometimes compelling videos of sequences of the miracles. The video of the spirits possessing the swine was vivid.

The choreography was beautiful. The graceful movements of the 'Adonai' chorus and the lilting melody transported us to the middle-east.

The miracle of the wedding at Cana; the miracle of the man being cured of unclean spirits; the miracle of the five loaves and two fish; and the miracle of bringing Lazarus from the dead were some of the miracles performed.

The performances renewed our faith. The Bible quizzes by the compere, interspersed between the acts, helped to test our knowledge of the Bible. Every miracle was prefaced by a reading of the relevant verse from scripture. There was also a video on the life of St. Francis Xavier.
