The light
in the lantern
in the center
of the complex
has been burning
since last night.
When I informed
the caretaker

So why bother?
From daybreak
through noon
from evening
to twilight
the lamp
-despite its efforts
had to wait till
night
to find its purpose.
With the Diwali lights
on the fringes of the lawns
put on now,
all looks festive.
Except for
the colossal waste of electricity.
