This Sunday Queenie suggested we try a Shravan thali since we are in the time of Shravan. She also picked the spot - Voltaire at Reis Magos.

Voltaire
The place is run by Sangam Pai Dhungat and his wife Shalka who is an architect.
The place was earlier a godown, Sangam shared. They have done it up beautifully. You feel you are in an old Goan house styled in the Hindu architectural tradition.

The distinctive woodwork has been sourced from Cuncolim. The ochre leaf motifs are in the Goan Kaavi art tradition which is dying.

The walls are replete with shelves housing reliquary from the past. Ancient typewriters, telephones, lanterns, brass cooking vessels, kitchen implements and a kettle with cups from a bygone era sit on the shelves.

Special Shravan thali.

The special Shravan thali (₹420) consisted of:
Ambadyacha Udhamethi
Moog Grathi
Varan
Saar
Sol Kadi
Khatkhate
Xit
Papad
Achar
Poories
Mirchi ani aloo kappa
Tawsali

The food was delicious and the service competent. Dwayne had a fish thali (₹250).

Goan motifs.

The idea of naming a restaurant after an old armchair, called voltaire in Konkani was charming. It helped us unwind with the river Mandovi and Tarini in sight.

There is parking space at the porch and four steps get you inside. Glad we made it to this heritage home so lovingly restored.
