Kurla calling

 - Brian Mendonca

Driving at break-neck speed down the hills from Shimla to Delhi yesterday, a birthday in Mumbai seemed a far cry.

But make it we did, clambering on the 8 p.m.  Indigo flight from Delhi airport to amchi Mumbai.

When we landed around 10 p.m. it seemed strange to hear Marathi after listening to the warbles of the hills.

Today was spent recouping. We are practically living out of a suitcase. But we looked forward to meeting the family in Kurla for dinner.

Melanie and Balwinder graciously hosted us. We took along the famed Rameshwar vada pav from Kurla. Across the street was sheek pav which Queenie bounded out of the car to pick up. She uses to pick it up during her working days in Mumbai 20 years ago.

Melanie turned out a watermelon salad. Balwinder brought out the Belgian Hoegarden beer with a unique taste. Incidentally I had also tasted another home-brewed Belgian beer called Baaa in Shimla.

There were great sharings over food. Queenie looked pleased cutting the birthday cake. Before we left to take the Uber I could not resist eating an apus mango from the fruit basket.
