Woman reading a book on her lap. |
-Brian Mendonca
As long as it is in your lap
there is hope for poetry.
As long as it is in your lap
life is filled with possibilities.
As long as it is in your lap
Dandin can rephrase his grammar.
Bangalore Central; Assagao, Goa
the enframing happens on its own.
As long as it is in your lap
the pages can be born once more.
No commitments, no assumptions
Just 'Call Me' 'Working Woman'
You place your elbow
on the face of my book
as your left hand reveals
two rings of metal.
You place your arm on it now
with greater confidence
as though its yours
but it isn't yet.
The kerning and the yearning
shrink words on a page.
Once the talk is over
and Heidegger is done
I ask,
'Would you like to buy it?'
And you say
'Yes.'
