Funeral announcement for Anne Trinidade |
- Brian Mendonca
You were sent by God
to make this world a better place.
In your little ways
you brought healing to our lives.
Always smiling, always gentle
You came when we needed you
In far away Delhi.
You brought us together
Queenie and me
Giving us a life to share
and a hand to hold.
When I needed to stay
your keys opened
a flat in Marol.
Hours of conversation
we enjoyed on the phone
From Goa we came to
spend Christmas with you.
Kharghar days were pleasant
because of you.
You knew you were slipping
But you refused to give up.
MRIs and scans, radiation and chemo
You bore it all cheerfully
Not wanting to trouble others.
A teacher par excellence
at Little Angels school for 20+ years
You put service before self
disdaining power, position and pelf.
Your flowery shirts
brought colour to life
Go forth singing with a twinkle in your eye
The Konkani medleys you so used to love.
Sasumai nachta, zavoy nachta, kai bore dista
Sasumai nachta, zavoy nachta, kai bore dista.*
(Kharghar, Navi Mumbai)

*Konkani version of Bing Crosby's 'Lay Your Pistol Down' (1936) often sung in English medleys.
