Open the gates before him

-Brian Mendonca

       O gates, lift high your heads;
       grow higher, ancient doors.
       Let him enter, the king of glory!

                                       Psalm 24:7

Today's psalm for the Mass readings uses the imagery of the gate.

Gates have symbolic value. They, like forts, display the credentials of the denizens within its ramparts.

Sometimes not all the inhabitants subscribe to the same ideology. Foisting a flag on a gate in a complex where people follow several faiths is insensitive.

In the reading, David dances before the ark of the Lord 'with all his might.' (2 Sam 6)
