Fr. Lincoln celebrates Mass on New Year's Day.

 - Brian Mendonca

Though we had a late night on the 31st we made a special effort to go for the New Year Mass at 8.30 a.m.

The previous day being Sunday,  also began with prayer and Mass at 9 a.m. It was the feast of the Holy Family.

Today is the feast of Mary, Mother of God. This was the first time we ventured up to the second floor where the Mass was being said.

On our way to the church we passed Prem Dhan,  the earlier venue for Sunday Masses before the present space was built in 2018. We remembered the people from the parish who had lost their lives to COVID.

In front of the crib, Divya Kripa church.

An usher tried to dissuade us from going up, saying it was full. But we went up anyway. Only the front bench was vacant. We asked the people on the bench behind it if we could sit there. They nodded.  We shared the bench with a gent in a kurta who led us in prayer before Mass, and two small girls dressed in blue costumes.

The church is beautiful. It has a modernist look on the outside. Inside, it looks serene like the abode of the Lord - the stained glass panel of Christ clad in white ascending to the heavens behind the crucifix. .

Fr. Lincoln Rebello, the priest-in-charge, said the Mass with great reverence. It was awesome to be standing just a few meters away from the altar. The Mass with its special liturgy and special blessing uplifted us. We entrusted the New Year to Mother Mary, and specially the day as we were travelling back to Goa that evening.

There was an option of going to Don Bosco, Matunga for Mass on 31st December night, but we preferred to be at Kharghar because this is our parish, and this is where we belong.
