Event schedule

Altar servers queue up to board the bus.

Today our parish, Holy Family church, Porvorim, observed Altar-servers Day. An annual feature through the initiative of the priests of Mapusa deanery, this year the venue was the astroturf ground of St. Anthony's school, Monte de Guirim.

I has always been intrigued by the school on the hill but had not ventured to visit it. Today I decided to push the envelope and drop in - if only to see Dwayne play in the football tournament.

As we made our way to the ground we noticed a few artists who were sketching the picturesque scenes before them.

Holy Family church, Porvorim, won the tournament defeating Duler parish by three goals. It was a good game with Duler rattling the Porvorim defense on many an occasion. (See video) The other parishes that participated included the parishes of Parra, Revora, and Colvale.

The young uns were full of beans, cheering hysterically as their team neared the opposing side's goal.

Towards the end of the event Fr. Alfi announced a prize for the altar-server/parish who/which collects the maximum number of plastic bottles.

The Altar-servers' day ended around 6.30 p.m. but Dwayne was not done yet. His drama teacher was waiting for him in church for a dress rehearsal for a pageant on King David for Bible Sunday next week.
