Beat the cardiac with the Cradiac!

Cradiac Gunner 700C

-Brian Mendonca

We picked up this beauty yesterday from Jose Cabral's cycle gallery at Mala, Goa.  We had not thought that the buy would be so seamless. I mean it was the first bike Dwayne (12) set his eyes on in the store! What was more, the helpful storekeeper Avito reassured me that I could ride it as well!

Dwayne's first bike was a Hero Sundancer when he was 4. I titled my blog post Cycle of Life

After busting my backside riding over the speedbreakers in our complex, I decided that the terrain would have to change, if I were to enjoy riding the bike.

With the Cradiac in the showroom.

This morning, I coaxed it out of its moorings in the parking lot in the dawn light at 6.45 a.m. My destination was the Holy Family church, Porvorim, for the 7 a.m. Mass. I noted that it was in English being a Friday.

The exhilaration as I swept past the confining complex gates was difficult to describe. Of course I had my jhola (cloth bag) with me slung over my left shoulder.

The Mass was said by the parish priest and concelebrated by the asst. parish priest. The church was quite full with people on every bench.

I took particular comfort from the words of Psalm 119, 'Teach me good judgement and knowledge/ For I trust in your commands. '

On my way back I picked up the puri bhaji which Dwayne likes from Cafe Bhonsale.

I let myself in the house at around 7.50 a.m. and went to wake up Dwayne who wanted to ride at 8. As I write this, the time creeps on to 11 - and he is still riding. It's so much better than being glued to the phone.

Bringing the cycle has changed our lives. Its dual use - by Dwayne and me - is a game changer. We are both on vacation now and this gives us something exciting to do. 24x7.
