String beans

 

String beans with coconut.

Ingredients
String beans / val  -  400 gms.
Mustard seeds       -  1spoon
Curry leaves / Karipatta  - 2 sprigs
Coconut oil           - 2 spoons
Salt   - to taste
Green chillies - 3 (slit in the middle)
Onion             - 1 medium sized

Preparation
Wash the string beans and cut them into bits of less than one inch. Keep aside. Put oil in a kadai and chuck in a few mustard seeds. Add karipatta, Chop the onions and add them. Saute. Add the string beans. Add salt. Toss it around. Place a lid on the vessel. Put a water on the lid (half glass). Let it cook on sim flame for 20 minutes. Suppress the urge to open the vessel before that. Open the vessel. Add coconut shavings. Mix well. Close the vessel and cook for some more time. Switch the flame off.

Queenie observed that in Goan cooking, no masalas are used. Otherwise turmeric/haldi is used in this preparation.
