44, 66, or 566?

Boscoites and family chill at Raia.

The drive from Porvorim to Raia is about 40 kms. Today being a holiday we drove down for an afternoon of fun with school friends.

Driving by GPS, I realized that there were three routes open to me.
GPS routing to Raia.

While going to Raia we were directed to SH 44. This made us veer left after Cortalim from NH 66. 44 led us via Loutolim where we were confronted by the majestic Saviour of the World church where the funeral service had been held for those who met their watery grave in the Zuari river. Zilla bakery was also on our mind. We decided to drop in on our way back.

But this was not to be. On our return Google directed us via Camorlim (not Camurlim in North Goa). As the rain came down in torrents we swept past Anoshka restaurant, Loutolim. We kept the meandering river Zuari to our right as we crossed through Cortalim and the barges that were moored there. After narrow lanes in the twilight we emerged from SH 566 on to NH 66.

66 is my usual route everyday. Raia church is the landmark near the venue. I have enjoyed fish curry rice at Johnny's bar and restaurant near the church. Keeping the church on my left I could have turned right on the road through Manora and emerged at Nuvem church on 66. After that we would have been on easy street.

I am still wondering why Google chose 44 and 566 when 66 was clearly a better route.
