Goans are familiar with Mardol restaurant at Verna. The last time I ate there I was so stuffed. So I was delighted when the restaurant opened a branch in the heart of Patto, Panjim.
We just happened to get parking in front of the hotel and come 1.30 p.m. we could not but step in to take our chances. We scooped up Dwayne as he was being dropped home from school and made it a little impromptu family outing for ourselves.
Mardol has come where Navtara was before they shut shop. With the working crowd at Patto, the place can be assured of its clientele. Of course Ritz Classic, Patto, on the other side, were there first. But life is about variety.
The thalis were delicious. The rotis were wafer thin and non-oily. The veg thali was inspired. They had several innovative dishes. One was a preparation made with pineapple. Eating on a banana leaf made the food retain its freshness. The food was easy to digest. The service understated and courteous. The bearer with the finger bowl seemed over-enthusiastic but we shooed him away until we were done.
