It isn't often that we take the road down to Socorro church off the main NH66 coming from Mapusa. But Queenie was in quest for some karipatta (curry leaves) for our balcony garden. As the road meandered past fields and groves, some hushed in silence, we found our way to Green Essentials, Ambirna vaddo, Socorro, Bardez, Goa.

Green Essentials which believes in organic farming is swathed in green, with all manner of plants. Anish was most helpful as he patiently advised us on plant care. We came away with a tomato plant complete with stilts to prop it up.

The place is lovingly tended. The money plants hand from a profusion of pots hanging from the rafters.  There is even a reading space stacked with books the likes of Moong Over Microchips by Venkat Iyer; Enchanted Garden by Tom Cutberthson; and Secrets of the Soil by Peter Tomkins and Christopher Bird.

There is ample parking space in front of the house. Sometimes it is even used for events.

What actually started my photo shoot was the old Goan house opposite Green Essentials. At the near corner a huge yellow four-storey apartment complex looms over like a Goliath. Yet I hope the winds of change never unsettle the quite life of Socorro. As I drive past D'lima Vaddo I think of late Professor D'Lima and his stories from Socorro. Time to read one now.
