It didn’t take long
to sit under the trees
It didn’t take long
to pay the fees.
The tresses
and the dresses
The hugs
and the mugs
Belie the spectre
of years gone sour.
Morning sunlight
kisses the stone benches
(For a while now
we had been living
in the trenches)
The shiver of the breeze
unlocks the freeze.
Carmel is back on its feet
-through the hail
-the storm
-the abyss
-and the sleet.
