Coppiced trees in Oversley Wood, Forest of Arden

-Brian Mendonca

Oscar

Thou shouldst be among us
At this hour
As September
Creeps into October.
Why had you
To go whither?
Across the road
To the forest of Arden?
On the highway
Yesterday’s lamps
Burn still
Why could not
Your dreams endure?
Arise, shine out
Your light has come.
The harvest is plentiful
But the labourers are few.
The children look for you
But find you not
Your face is etched
On those that remain
As we transit, sans you
Through the sign of Libra.
