Johann Strauss II (1825-1899) was a Viennese composer. He is known for his waltzes – like ‘Emperor’ and ‘Blue Danube’ - and operettas. His father wanted Strauss, Junior (he also had an elder brother) to become a bank clerk, but Strauss Jr. pursued his studies in secret. With his mother’s support he soon rivalled his father’s orchestra.

Wiener Bon Bons [Vienna Toffees] was Strauss’s contribution to the Industrial Societies’ festivities held at the Imperial Palace, Vienna in 1866. It combined the traditional Viennese waltz with Parisian flair. The composition was published in 1866 with the title made of twisted Bonbon wrappers.
