About: Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) was a German composer. He is a colossus in western classical music of  the 18th century. The soprano aria is part of a larger work, i.e. the cantata,  Was mir behagt - the hunting cantata - (BWV 208). It is sung by Pales, the goddess of crops, pastures and livestock. It was written for Duke Christian of Sachsen-Weissenfels, who was an avid huntsman, for his birthday on 23rd February 1713. The aria is about the joys of hunting and the pleasures of the countryside. Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany and passed on in Leipzig, Germany.
