                                                            Kavya Lekhan Karyashala,
                                                      Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji,
                                                                        7 July 2017

The students wrote some fine poetry in English covering themes like fond memories of a father, relationships, and women's issues.

In the session I had with them I presented to them the wide range of Indian poetry in English in the work of Sarojini Naidu, Tagore, Ramanujan, Mehrotra, and the pungent verse of Sridala Swami. The attention of students was also drawn to the work of saint-poets of India like Jayadeva, Kabir, Nanak, Mirabai and Chandidas. Finally I pointed out the verse from the North East with poets like Nilimani Phukan, Robin Ngangon and Temsula Ao.

I ended with a plea to use Goa as a canvas for their poetry and illustrated it with a poem of mine called 'May Queen.'

A day soaked in poetry in memory of Bakibab Borkar.
